The Welkinweir Green Valley area is has zillions of miles of trails to explore, beautiful gardens, an historic estate, and the Rodebaugh dam. The well-known Horseshoe trail passes through the area. Hiking northwest leads to another large park called Warwick. We are going to explore this area for 3-3.5 hours.
Some info about Welkinweir. "Welkinweir, the former estate of Everett and Grace Rodebaugh, founding members of the Green Valleys Association, is now the headquarters and educational center for the organization.
For over forty years, the Rodebaugh's worked to transform the former declining farm into formal gardens, arboretum and sanctuary for biodiversity provided by the ponds, wetlands, meadows, and woodlands.
Use this Google Map link to the starting point which is the Welkinweir Parking Lot right off of Prizer Rd. The gate should be open, but if it's not wait there and we will find another place to park.
