The Woodlawn Trust is a wonderful area that we discovered near the Brandywine in DE, less than an hour from Philly. Near the end of our last hike there we found an area with zillions of colorful butterflies and more wildflowers than I've seen elsewhere. We didn't have time to explore then, but we're coming back to explore the area for 3-4 hours.
The landscape and trails are varied and the trails are in great shape. Sometimes we will walking next to a bubbling brook or creek, or a farm with horses grazing nearby, or next to corn field. In all cases, the landscape is beautiful. One of the nicest places I have hiked, bar none. Here's a link to the photos from the last hike: http://www.hikingarou...

CAUTION: If you haven't recently hiked at least 7 miles, then you should first try one of our shorter duration hikes.

Afterwards those interested can go to a nearby Pub for food and drink. Update: We arranged to go to Stanley's Tavern in Wilmington. Established 1935. Address: Stanley's Tavern
2038 Foulk Road , Wilmington, DE 19810

Here is a link to the starting point. Study the map so you don't get lost. There may be more parking across the street. Park anywhere, but meet us at this little parking lot. http://local.google.c...

To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 1015am. Each carpooler chips in $7 at the start. Make sure to email me if you want to carpool. Here's a Google Map link to Hill House.

Always good idea to bring some food and your camera.
Warm weather hike info:
1- Put on sun bloc before leaving home.
2- For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
3- Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir.
4- Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.

If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...

Have your event fee ready in dollar bills so we can get going right away. No coins, dubloons, or 5's or 10"s. Thank you.

Please be aware of our group rating system. We need 5 stars ratings or no rating. http://www.hikingarou...

If you change your mind please change your RSVP. No-shows may be barred from events. Email or call if you have a problem.

Okay to bring fido. Please read the Doggy Page first: http://www.hikingarou...

    •  I have now scientifically proven that breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, especially before a long hike (with many hills). Just didn't feel hungry that morning & I was fine until about mile 6, when my body just completely ran out of nutrients; the guage dropped to 0. Big thanks to the concerned folks who gave me granola bars & water, and waited for me to recharge. Felt perfectly fine on Sunday. Saw many cool dragonflies but couldn't catch 'em. :-) Hope to join you all again.

Plenty of wild flowers, butterflies, and horses. Sidney did a good job of clearing the trail for the rest of us ;-) Total distance: 6.8 miles.
