Join the Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) for a work party in an area we love to hike. Meet 930am at Hill House to carpool to the work site or go to the site any time after 9.
Here's the write up FOW website. FOW’s next project of the Sustainable Trails Initiative is a re-route of the Yellow Trail near the Saul Agricultural School. Fairmount Park will be closing and re-vegetating the existing trail which has become a wide gully. FOW volunteers are undertaking a sustainable re-route of the trail. Please join us to learn the ins and outs of sustainable trail building! Directions: (See LOCATION link) Meet at 9 am at Pachella Field at Henry Avenue and Livezey Street, 19128. Parking is available in the lot at Pachella Field (P-10 on the FOW Map). Volunteers are encouraged to bike or carpool to the event. If you arrive late, you will find us along the Yellow Trail north of Pachella Field near the Saul School. Follow the yellow volunteer signs. It is about ½ mile hike from Pachella Field to the work site. Volunteers are encouraged to bike or carpool to the event.
To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 930am. Make sure to let me know if you want to carpool. http://local.google.c...
Always good idea to bring some food, your camera, and on hot days a dry shirt that you can change into. Warm weather hike info: • Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files. • For the work party it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice. • Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou... • Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.
Please be aware of our group rating system. We need a 5 star rating or no rating. Read more about this at: http://www.hikingarou...
If you change your mind please change your RSVP. No-shows may be barred from events. Email or call if you have a problem.
