Annual Mummers Day Hike with Get Out Philly

On New Year's Day for the last 20 years or so, I've been hiking down to the Mummers Parade. From Chestnut Hill we hike through the Wissahickon to the bike path, then cross Ridge Ave to Kelly Drive. At the Art Museum we head towards City Hall and the Mummers.
We may stop at Whole Foods near the Art Museum for a bite, then head on towards City Hall and the Mummers regalia.
It's always great to hear the music and see the costumes after the quiet of the hike. Sometimes we stay and watch the Mummers till nightfall. Sometimes we head right back to Chestnut Hill. Return home either from Suburban Station or Reading Terminal taking the R8 of R7 towards Chestnut Hill, last stop.
The hike should take about 4.5-5.5 hours with a stop for food. We will go at a decent pace. Remember that the weather will warm up during the day, so dress in layers with a pack to carry discarded clothing.

The photo is from a previous hike. The temperature was about 65 that day and we had just about that many people. Someone said they saw a tour bus near the starting point.

Sidney GEvent HostOrganizerAbout 10 folks joined our merry group. Weather was better than expected with blue skies in the morning. After lunch at Whole Foods we inched our way to the front of the crowd near the Union League to watch about 6 string bands perform. Great day! -
