Ft. Washington State Park (map)
Ft Washington State Park is a lot bigger than you think. One trail, the Green Ribbon Trail, goes up the Wissahickon Creek for 10 miles. Unfortunately to follow the trail, we tried, you need to carry pontoon bridges to continue onward when the trail crosses the creek. However, there is a hidden trail in the park near Germantown Academy that actually dead ends in someone's driveway.
We will continue on the nearby small street that is incredibly nice. The homes, homesteads, and farms make you think you are in Lancaster County. We also found an historic estate circa 1800 called the Highlands which has interesting grounds which include several Versailles-like gardens all surrounded by a castle wall! At the right season we could dine on rasberrys.
Like many hikes, part of this hike will explore new territory.
We will walk for 3-4 hours at moderate to fast pace. Course will be pretty level, no or few hills. Great for so-so winter weather. Will find a great place to eat/drink nearby.
We meet at the Bird Tower at Ft Washington State Park. Here's a link:
