Pennypack Ecological Trust, Bryn Athyn, & Work Party

The Pennypack Ecological Trust area is a beautiful area just outside the city that runs along Pennypack Creek. The area connects with the incomparable Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Castle which are treats from both the outside and inside. The work party lasts till noon. Then we have a free lunch for workers. At 12:45 we meetup for a 2.5-3 hour hike. You can join us for the work party, hike, or both.

About the castle from various websites:
"A "little" castle built by Raymond Pitcairn to house his antique collections. "
"Glencairn is now a museum; it was once a home. An architectural Romanesque masterpiece, it is one of the last buildings constructed totally by mastercraftsmen of stonework, wood carving, mosaic work, stained glass, and metalwork in the United States. Completed in 1939, it is the ultimate creation of a man closely identified with the Swedenborgian faith and its spiritual center in Bryn Athyn. His name was Raymond Pitcairn, and Glencairn was the name he gave to the home he built for his family."

For those interested in the work party, which involves a stream cleanup, meet us at 10am at the park office at the main link. Bring a pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Workers get treated to lunch which was sponsored by Whole Foods last year.
Those just interested in the 2-3 hour hike in the area with a visit to the Castle and Cathedral meet us at 12:45 in the parking lot or nearby picnic area. The area is not very hilly.

To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 915am. Each carpooler chips in $3 at the start plus splits tolls. Make sure to email me if you want to carpool. Here's a Google Map link to Hill House.
