Ice Cream Sundae Twilight Hike

No, we are not hiking to ice cream, but for those interested we will make ice cream sundaes after the hike. Bring your favorite toppings like hot fudge, walnuts, etc or something healthy like strawberries or bananas. I'll buy the ice cream (Edi's Grand or better) and heavy cream to make whipped cream. Folks chip in $1-$2 extra for the ice cream.

If you plan to join us for ice cream, use the 'comment' area by Thursday night to let us know what you are bringing.
13 people limit for the ice cream.

The Chestnut Hill and Wissahickon areas are about as beautiful places as you would want to visit. And you don't need to travel to Colorado or Montana or Maine. With better weather the twilight hikes in the Chestnut Hill Wissahickon should be great.
We will head around Chestnut Hill, go into the park, for a 1-2 hour walk and hopefully view a wonderful sunset from one of the highest places in the city. This will not be as difficult as the usual hikes in the Wissahickon.

Needless to say, we will go a different route each hike.

Ice cream heaven. All natural coffee and french vanilla ice creams with hot fudge and caramel toppings; real whipped cream; walnuts; M & M's and reeses pieces; pretzels; strawberries and blueberries.

Hiking Around Philly is different from most hiking groups because we hike (and sometimes bicycle) off the beaten path. We hike in the woods and the city. We go places that won't be found on any hiker's map. The events are usually within a 1.5 hour drive from Philly, though we sometimes visit NYC or the Jersey shore. Once each year we go to Acadia National Park in Maine, one of the best places in the world to hike. We sometimes participate in a conservation work party in a area we hike.

And, we do a lot more than hike; we explore. Whether it be a trail in a park or a back alley in the city, we always look for neat things, and we find them. Did you notice the 25 foot dinosaur made from pink suntan lotion bottles? We take time to appreciate a beautiful tree, a low flying eagle, or a hickory horned devil (look it up). We visit museums, historic houses, bakeries, battleships, and other neat places. We appreciate architecture, sculptures (Philly has more than any other US city, yea!), or whatever we find near our path. After a hike we often eat at a special place. And, we rarely repeat ourselves.

Fearless lost explorers and sidney (fleas) are curious. This group is not for people content to only go down one trail and up another, nor for people happy to take the same or beaten path. This group may also be different because only one person leads hikes, gets folks lost, and does the bulk of administrative work. So, please read on to make sure you want to be a proud flea.
