I love going to the Jersey beach off season. Today we will go on-season, but to avoid traffic, cars and people, we're coming back early, about 2-230pm.

We'll meet at Corson's Inlet State Park in Ocean City, NJ at 945am and walk around this beautiful area for around 2-3 hours. There are sand dunes and several areas away from bathers. Afterwards we may head for lunch at Piccini if it's not too busy. Great inexpensive Italian food including pizza. After lunch we will take a short walk before heading back. Plan to be back in Philly by 4pm.

In the comment area let me know if you want to carpool from Hill House or meet us at Corson's Inlet.

Warm weather hike info:
• Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files.
• On real hot days, bring an umbrella for the sun. Highly recommend: http://www.campmor.co...
• For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
• Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
• Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.

Well, since our hiking leader didn't DIE after eating unidentified berries, we had a blast wading through the bay and ocean and navigating a labyrinth of tall grasses and bushes through the sand dunes. Great pizza for lunch.

Great experience walking through cattail forests, sampling beach plums, and wading through the ocean and bay water in bare feet.

Beautiful day! The people were great company. The scenery was interesting. Some berries I'd never seen before. Love walking along the beach. Good workout walking in the sand. Will definitely do it again. Thanks Sidney A five!

Hiking Around Philly is different from most hiking groups because we hike (and sometimes bicycle) off the beaten path. We hike in the woods and the city. We go places that won't be found on any hiker's map. The events are usually within a 1.5 hour drive from Philly, though we sometimes visit NYC or the Jersey shore. Once each year we go to Acadia National Park in Maine, one of the best places in the world to hike. We sometimes participate in a conservation work party in a area we hike.

And, we do a lot more than hike; we explore. Whether it be a trail in a park or a back alley in the city, we always look for neat things, and we find them. Did you notice the 25 foot dinosaur made from pink suntan lotion bottles? We take time to appreciate a beautiful tree, a low flying eagle, or a hickory horned devil (look it up). We visit museums, historic houses, bakeries, battleships, and other neat places. We appreciate architecture, sculptures (Philly has more than any other US city, yea!), or whatever we find near our path. After a hike we often eat at a special place. And, we rarely repeat ourselves.

Fearless lost explorers and sidney (fleas) are curious. This group is not for people content to only go down one trail and up another, nor for people happy to take the same or beaten path. This group may also be different because only one person leads hikes, gets folks lost, and does the bulk of administrative work. So, please read on to make sure you want to be a proud flea.
