Bridlewild Trails #3

The Bridlewild trail system in Lower Merion has at least 70 miles of trails with only about 35 miles officially marked. The trails go through parks, down small streets, past mansions and fields. Often you think you are hiking on a beautiful mountain trail; other times you are walking down a small street past luxorious mansions. Only Bridlewild Trail Association members (and guests) are allowed on these trails because of the many easements granted.

The plan for this hike is to start at Richie Ashburn Field, 1799 YoungsFord Rd
Gladwyne, PA 19035. Here's a Google Map link: http://local.google.c...
We then meander by Turtle Hollow (hilly & beautiful like mountain trails) and the Philadelphia Country Club. There's a large bamboo forest near the country club that's real fun to wallk through. We then head though Riverbend Natural Area (very hilly), go by the Palace Mission Mansion, and loop back around the Country Club, the Henry Foundation lands, and Turtle Hollow. We may do the hike in the reverse direction.

We plan to walk for about 3 hours. CAUTION: If you haven't recently hiked at least 6 miles, then you should first try one of our shorter duration hikes.

To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 9am. Each carpooler chips in $2 at the start. Make sure to email me if you want to carpool. Here's a Google Map link to Hill House.

Warm weather hike info:
• Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files.
• On real hot days, bring an umbrella for the sun. Highly recommend: http://www.campmor.co...
• For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
• Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
• Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.

color=orangered]If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...
