Movie Night Hike

By popular demand, a passerby mentioned it, we are going to do the Movie Hike on a Saturday and may repeat if there is interest and no bar room brawls. We will first hike around the Chestnut Hill Wissahickon area for 1.5-2 hours. At around 5:30 we will get ourselves together for food and a movie. For food we can bring stuff, order out, or do both. Bring boos if you want to drink. I can make some dynamite popcorn for the movie.

For the first main feature we will show Hitchcock's Rear Window with Philadelphia's own Grace Kelly and Indiana, Pennylvania's Jimmy Stewart. I can be bribed (bring 50's) to change the feature and we can add another one. I can download just about anything ever made.

From Wikipedia--- Formerly known as East River Drive, it was renamed "Kelly Drive" in the 1980s to honor John B. Kelly, Jr., a Philadelphia City Councilman[1], Olympic rower, and the brother of Grace Kelly.

There is a limit for this event because I live in an apartment and only so many folks can comfortably watch a movie. If you just want to hike don't sign up, just email me.

Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. We can still do the movie. Come over about 530 just for the movie.

Hiking Around Philly is different from most hiking groups because we hike (and sometimes bicycle) off the beaten path. We hike in the woods and the city. We go places that won't be found on any hiker's map. The events are usually within a 1.5 hour drive from Philly, though we sometimes visit NYC or the Jersey shore. Once each year we go to Acadia National Park in Maine, one of the best places in the world to hike. We sometimes participate in a conservation work party in a area we hike.

And, we do a lot more than hike; we explore. Whether it be a trail in a park or a back alley in the city, we always look for neat things, and we find them. Did you notice the 25 foot dinosaur made from pink suntan lotion bottles? We take time to appreciate a beautiful tree, a low flying eagle, or a hickory horned devil (look it up). We visit museums, historic houses, bakeries, battleships, and other neat places. We appreciate architecture, sculptures (Philly has more than any other US city, yea!), or whatever we find near our path. After a hike we often eat at a special place. And, we rarely repeat ourselves.

Fearless lost explorers and sidney (fleas) are curious. This group is not for people content to only go down one trail and up another, nor for people happy to take the same or beaten path. This group may also be different because only one person leads hikes, gets folks lost, and does the bulk of administrative work. So, please read on to make sure you want to be a proud flea.
