The Horseshoe Trail around Welkinweir is quite beautiful and fun to hike with lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. Welkinweir itself is a 200 acre estate formerly owned by Everett and Grace Rodebaugh, founding members of the Green Valleys Association. I've planned a tour of the fully furnished house and the gardens after the 3 hour hike; tour cost $10 each. I peeked in the main house the last time in the area: it looked really nice, worthwhile enough to visit.
For the hike we're doing something I've never done before. We're meeting at the large parking lot at Welkinweir then we are taking a few cars to the the starting point, somewhere further up the Horseshoe Trail in Warwick County Park. I figure a 15 minute drive. Then we are going to hike, find, our way back to Welkinweir via the Horseshoe Trail which runs right by the Estate.
The estate insides are quite beautiful, I once peeked in a window, and the gardens are listed as one of the nicer gardens in the area. Here are some links with additional information.

Always good idea to bring some food, your camera, and on hot days a dry shirt that you can change into.
Warm weather hike info:
• Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files.
• On real hot days, bring an umbrella for the sun. Highly recommend: http://www.campmor.co...
• For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
• Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
• Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.
color=orangered]If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...
