The last time we walked to the city from Chestnut Hill the heat index was over 100. Should be a bit coooler this day. Those interested can partake of the free Doo Wop Festival at Penn's Landing. Bring an umbrella for the sun and your dancin' shoes. Take the R8 or R7 back to Chestnut Hill when you are ready.
For this 12-15 mile hike we start at Hill House in Chestnut Hill. We'll meander through Chestnut Hill, W Mt Airy and the Wissahickon, often on small trails, to the River Drives. We'll take an upper path on the drives going right by Laurel Hill Cemetery and follow the Boxer Trail into to the Girard Ave Bridge. From here we meander through the Fairmount section to Whole Foods where we will stop for a repast. For those who want to meet up with us in town, figure 1230pm to 1pm at Whole Foods at 20th & Pennsylvania.
After lunch those interested can head to the festivities at Penn's Landing which is right on the Delaware. We can sit right by the water, or in the amphitheater, or get up and boogie (jitterbug) anywhere. Should be great if we have some 'live ones' in the group.
The Doo Wop Festival goes from 1 to 7. Once in Center City you can catch the R8 or R7, last stop, to Chestnut Hill at any time.
If you don't know what doo wop sounds like, I spent a fun hour finding these links to great examples. Enjoy.

Always good idea to bring some food, your camera, and on hot days a dry shirt (and your dancin' shoes) that you can change into.
Warm weather hike info:
-- Put on sun bloc before leaving home.
-- For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
-- Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
-- Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.
color=orangered]If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...
