No better day to walk the beautiful 8.5 mile flat Art Museum-Falls Bridge loop along the Schuylkill than on the day of the Dragon Boat Races. Several members are involved. If they post race times, I'll bring the pom poms to cheer them on. With about an hour stop to watch the races the hike should take around 4 hours. The distance will be 8-11 miles depending on our exact route. The only steep area is the steps going up/down near Strawberry Mansion Bridge.
We start at the parking lot near Chamounix Mansion. Use this link: http://local.google.c...
Carefully plan your route because the River Drives may be closed. We then head directly to the River Drives via the spectacular Strawberry Mansion Bridge. We might also get a great view of the race from this vantage point. If Kelly Drive is closed we may be able to take this rarely used stairway from the bridge to the drive area. We head down Kelly Drive towards the Art Museum where we cross over to Martin Luther King (West River Drive). We then head back to Falls Bridge and Kelly Drive. We will cross the Strawberry Mansion Bridge again on our way back to the Chamounix Parking area.
CAUTION: If you haven't recently hiked at least 7 miles, then you should first try one of our shorter duration hikes.
To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 1245pm. Each carpooler chips in $2 at the start. Make sure to email me if you want to carpool. Here's a Google Map link to Hill House.

Always good idea to bring some food, your camera, and on hot days a dry shirt that you can change into.
Warm weather hike info:
• Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files.
• On real hot days, bring an umbrella for the sun. Highly recommend: http://www.campmor.co...
• For hikes in a park it's best to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants for protection against bugs, thorn bushes, poison ivy, etc. I'm often regretful when I don't take my own advice.
• Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
• Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.
color=orangered]If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...

SO sorry I missed everyone. I was about 15 minutes late and didn't realize that you were starting at the stables -- as I am guessing from Denise's pictures. I walked around most of both river drives anyway -- beautiful day and a terrific route!
