We scheduled this neato Center City Alleyways walk on the first Sunday of the month so we can take advantage of reduced admission to the Phila Museum of Art. We plan to stop at about 6 museums for a very short period of time, maybe 15 minutes, before zipping onward to the next. If I can arrange a free tour at one place, I'll add that to the agenda. Of course, we can choose.
We start at Reading Terminal outside the Down Home Restaurant on Filbert St. We head north and west to the Eastern State Penn, where Al Capone spent a year plus, before heading up to the superduper Perelman Museum which is part of and across the street from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Both have reduced admission this day: pay what you want (Homer Simpson is laughing). The Perelman building itself is a museum. We will stop in for 15 minutes before zipping to the main building across the street where we can decide to go or not. (I'll get the free tour schedule) There is also the free Waterworks museum right below the Art Museum on the river. It's another possible visit. Definitely a look.
Here's a link to a NYTimes Article about the Perelman entitled "Philadelphia Museum Moves Into A Landmark".

Afterwards, we're going to walk down the Kelly Drive extended path along the Schuylkill. We'll cross a bridge to the Penn Drexel Univerities area and then take a quick spin around the lower part of the Penn Campus seeing the Palestra, Franklin Field, Penn Anthropology Museum, and the Henry Charles Lea Reading Room (a Furness Building). We will then bop over to 30th street Station, zip through, and head back to Reading Terminal via as many side streets and alleyways that I can find.
Expect to walk at least 2 hours and figure museum looks for at least one hour. CAUTION: If you haven't recently hiked at least 5 miles, then you should first try one of our shorter duration hikes.
Afterwards we may head to Ocean Harbor for Dim Sum or to another Chinese Restaurant that Jim will recommend.

Always good idea to bring some food, your camera, and on hot days a dry shirt that you can change into.
Warm weather hike info:
• Apply sunscreen before leaving home. See more about sunscreens under Files.
• On real hot days, bring an umbrella for the sun. Highly recommend: http://www.campmor.co...
• Bring lots of water. Best to get a 3 liter hydration pack or reservoir. More about water: http://www.hikingarou...
• Only a forecast of thunderstorms and torrential rains will cancel a hike. A normal rain is no problem in warm weather.
If the weather is iffy I'll email a weather report a few days before the hike.. To see more about the weather visit: http://www.hikingarou...
Have your event fee ready in dollar bills so we can get going right away. Pay a one time calendar year fee instead. For more info visit: http://www.hikingarou...
Please be aware of our group rating system. We need a 5 star rating or no rating. Read more about this at: http://www.hikingarou...
If you change your mind please change your RSVP. No-shows may be barred from events. Email or call if you have a problem.
Dogs may be problematic on this hike because we are going into a few museums.
