Why Cooperate
When you consider the number & type of quality events offered for the annual fee, Hiking Around Philly has to be one of the least expensive Meetup groups on the web. Groups charging even $1 per event can be many times more expensive. I request cooperation with all of our policies so I can continue to run this group in the most open way possible.

How You Can Help
1- Know, remember, and have a unique meetup name so I can easily identify you.
Telling me your full name does not help, because I have no access to any record that includes your full name!
2- At events:
• Remain with group;
• Hike at the pace of the group, not faster, not slowerl;
• Stay off the cell;
• End conversations so you can listen to directions and introductions;
• Nudge the talker next to you to "Listen";
• Have your event fee ready in dollar bills;
3- Joining the group for one year saves time collecting event fees and saves money if you come out on a regular basis.
4- Sign-up and show up. Change your mind, change your RSVP.
5- Respond to emails. If I contact you, you need to respond.
6- Rate each event 5-star if you like the group. Otherwise don't rate it at all. Read more: http://www.hikingarou...
7- Read each ABOUT page. They are always being updated.

Other Things You Can Do To Help

• Help collect event fee with my assistance.

• Supply email feedback about anything on the website.
• Supply ideas for hikes and events.
• Help me edit write-ups. There are always mistakes.
• Check website for misteakes.
• Check website for strange, improper, and obscene comments or photos. That's photo's really me.

Hiking Around Philly is different from most hiking groups because we hike (and sometimes bicycle) off the beaten path. We hike in the woods and the city. We go places that won't be found on any hiker's map. The events are usually within a 1.5 hour drive from Philly, though we sometimes visit NYC or the Jersey shore. Once each year we go to Acadia National Park in Maine, one of the best places in the world to hike. We sometimes participate in a conservation work party in a area we hike.

And, we do a lot more than hike; we explore. Whether it be a trail in a park or a back alley in the city, we always look for neat things, and we find them. Did you notice the 25 foot dinosaur made from pink suntan lotion bottles? We take time to appreciate a beautiful tree, a low flying eagle, or a hickory horned devil (look it up). We visit museums, historic houses, bakeries, battleships, and other neat places. We appreciate architecture, sculptures (Philly has more than any other US city, yea!), or whatever we find near our path. After a hike we often eat at a special place. And, we rarely repeat ourselves.

Fearless lost explorers and sidney (fleas) are curious. This group is not for people content to only go down one trail and up another, nor for people happy to take the same or beaten path. This group may also be different because only one person leads hikes, gets folks lost, and does the bulk of administrative work. So, please read on to make sure you want to be a proud flea.
