I love eating good food at reasonable prices just as much as I love exploring. Often it takes as much time to find a 5-star restaurant with reasonable prices in the event area, as it does to plan the event. However, it's usually well worth the extra time. Feedback from many Fleas indicates that they really like this feature of the hikes.
One problem when eating out with a group is that each person needs to accurately figure out how much he/she owes including food, drinks, tax, and tip. No easy problem. So, here are some obvious guidelines. Feedback appreciated.
One, the minimum tip along with tax should be around 25% more. In Philly the tax is 8%; 17% is the tip. In PA outside Philly the tax is 6%, so 19% goes for the tip.
If your meal total is $12, then you owe at least 1/4 more, which is $3 for a total of $15. Make sure to add non-alcoholic drinks, which often cost $2, to the total.
Here's a brief list for those who need it.
Food Total-->What you owe for Food, Tax, and Tip
$8 -->$10;
$10-->$12.50;
$12-->$15;
$16-->$20;
$20-->$25.
These are minimums. For good service and good food, you might contribute a little more.
Two, bill shortages often involve expensive alcoholic drinks or a miscalculation by a flea or more likely by the restaurant. Fleas are pretty smart.
