RSVP Meaning
An RSVP is just not saving a space for you. Please keep this is mind when you RSVP.
RSVPs tell the organizer and group members that you will attend. As organizer I'm mainly concerned with numbers. Members may look at RSVPs differently hoping that there will be some nice folks with whom to talk and share the experience. If 7 people RSVP, then members expect to hike with 7 people, not 3.
Signing up and not showing up, being a no-show, destroys the group and undermines the entire idea of meetup. If you bothered to read this, then you are probably someone who "gets it" and will act in a responsible manner.
If you are a responsible person who happens to miss an event without changing his/her RSVP, please let me know that everything is all right. This contact will prevent you from being marked a no-show. I dislike marking a flea as a no-show.
If you are not sure that you can make an event for which many others have signed up, then sign-up as a 'maybe' if that option is available. See the RSVP new rules.

You don't need to sign up early just to get a spot. Sign up when you are ready to commit. If you do sign up, then you are required to show up. You can change your RSVP even hours before hike. No-shows may be barred from future activities.
You can sign up for yourself and one other person. It's okay to bring a dog or a child who is old enough to complete a hike at the group pace.
